HEDIS
The Health Plan Employer Data and Information Set (HEDIS) module provides the capability to accept a patient listing to be matched to existing registry records. This data is only a sampling of patients and is not imported into the registry. Based on the sample, a vaccination export can be created for the matched patients and their vaccinations. Additionally, a report can be run to view the patients without matches.

User access levels depend on how the HEDIS module is used and the permissions given. There are HEDIS permissions to create data profiles and to perform assessments.
Chickenpox/Varicella Vaccine
HEDIS export can also capture date information when a child has a contraindication for Varicella indicating parent report of disease. Managed care plans are required to provide information when a patient had chickenpox but no record of vaccination, or if a patient indicates they had chickenpox and thus do not need a Varicella vaccination.
Supporting date/age information can be provided in any of these formats:
- The date the patient had the disease (MM/DD/YY). If not populated, then the age the patient had the disease.
- If neither of the above is populated, provide Insert Date of "Parent Report of Chickenpox Date" contraindication.
HEDIS File Tips
The following are tips to consider when creating HEDIS files:
- HEDIS uses the same matching algorithm that is used when adding a new patient. This means that in addition to the patient information, one piece of guardian information and a corresponding address are required to make a match.
- Always include a patient medical record number.
- A text file (.txt) must be submitted.
- The zip code must be XXXXX or XXXXX-XXXX.
- The state must be the two-letter state abbreviation.
- HEDIS runs deduplication, so depending on the HEDIS size, this may take a while to complete.
- Only one HEDIS file is kept at a time. When a new HEDIS is run, the previous HEDIS information is removed.
